CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 30 (PIA) — More than 200 mangrove seedlings were planted along the coasts of Bayug Island in barangay Hinaplanon, Iligan City by the staff and employees of the Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X) and its Lanao del Norte Provincial Field Office during its recent Synchronized Tree Planting/Growing Activity.
The greening endeavor was in line with the Green Our DOLE program of the Department which seeks to attain green jobs-jobs that reduces environmental impact, contributes to climate change solutions, and results not only to environmental but also economic and social benefits to the community and to the workers.
Also included are jobs that help protect the ecosystem and biodiversity, and reduce energy materials and water consumption.
Iligan City was one the areas badly hit by Typhoon Sendong in December 2011. The greening effort is also seen to help prevent same flooding incidence in the future.
To ensure the growth of the planted mangrove seedlings, regularly monitoring will be conducted in partnership with the barangay constituents. - PIA
