ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/30 January) – The number of dengue cases in the city decreased by 1,221 in 2014 compared to that in 2013, the City Health Office said.
Dr. Rodelin Agbulos, city health officer said they recorded 3,590 dengue cases in 2014 4,811 cases in 2013.
Agbulos added 30 dengue patients died in 2014. The disease claimed 35 lives in 2013.
The official attributed the decrease to the continued prevention efforts of his office with the participation of the different sectors.
He said they have also activated and trained barangay dengue control teams.
Agbulos advised the public to keep their respective surroundings clean citing that cleanliness is one of the effective ways to prevent dengue.
He noted that places near rivers and those that are prone to flooding have high cases of dengue, as stagnant water serves as a breeding place for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
He said his office will continue the anti-dengue campaign to further reduce its occurrence. - MindaNews
