The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) placed the epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred 2:36 p.m., in the town of Lugait in Misamis Oriental, which shares boundary with Iligan.

Edmundo Pacamalan Jr., Misamis Oriental provincial disaster management chief, said no damage was reported so far in the province, especially in the municipality of Lugait.

“The quake was felt strongly by residents of Lugait but no damages were reported,” Pacamalan said.

PHIVOLCS said the earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 18 kilometers.
