A magnitude-5.1 quake shook the Surigao area 11:26 p.m. Friday night, with state seismologists recording at least 10 aftershocks three hours after the tremor.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the tectonic quake’s epicenter was 173 kilometers southeast of Surigao City.
The quake was felt at:
- Intensity IV in Surigao City; General Luna, Surigao del Norte;
- Intensity III in Tandag, Surigao del Sur; and
- Intensity II in San Jose, Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte; Bayabas and Tago, Surigao del Sur.
From 11:51 p.m. Friday to 2:26 a.m. Saturday, 10 aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.9 were recorded.
