September 22, 2014 — A town in North Cotabato has been placed under state of calamity following a series of earthquakes that affected the area over the weekend, a report on News To Go said Monday.
According to Philvolcs, some 38 quakes were recorded in the town of Makilala, including a magnitude-5 quake last Saturday, the report said.
At least 208 families, or 1,040 individuals were displaced by the series of quakes that damaged establishments including government buildings and residences houses in at least six villages. Thirty-two houses were deemed “totally wrecked.”
Makilala Mayor Rudy Caoagdan said they are now looking for a relocation site for affected residents.
The News To Go report said the series of quakes also left four people with minor injuries.
The local government of Makilala is still determining the extend and total cost of damage from the earthquakes, it added. - GMA News
